The 2017 White Coat ceremony officially welcomed the TeAMS 2017 class. Dr. Shalev, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine welcomed the students and reminded them about the importance of a collaborative approach to learning and medicine. Dr. Levy, Director of TeAMS spoke about the importance of maintaining academic and professional integrity. The audience was reminded about the monumental achievement of receiving a white coat. The keynote speak was Dr. David Rabinowitz who delivered a though provoking presentation on the patient physician relationship. The ceremony concluded with refreshments and a humorous presentation on culture by Dana Zachar and an interactive exercise on personality by Robert Lubin. Mazal Tov and best of luck to the class of 2017! The orientation week for the incoming class of 2017 included a day in the Golan region. Besides having an opportunity to meet each other, ATV riding, rafting in the Jordan River and a beautiful lunch were included as part of orientation week activities. Dr. Debra Kiez is an ER physician with an MD from McMaster University and residency training in Ottawa. She has worked part-time in the ER in Ottawa, Sudbury (Ontario), Boston, and Toronto. While her husband pursued a fellowship in pediatric cardiology in Boston, Dr. Kiez worked clinically, academically, and administratively at the New England Medical Center, including research on domestic violence. After a move to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Dr. Kiez maintained a clinical practice in the ER while also acting as residency Director at the University of Manitoba (Department of Family and Emergency Medicine) and having twins, bringing her family total to five! Since 1999, Dr. Kiez has devoted her time primarily to community emergency medicine, working in one of the provinces busiest ER’s. She shared a group practice in family medicine for ten years, giving it up when she took a sabbatical year in Israel and then made aliyah two years ago. She has an interest in alternative approaches in medicine, including mindfulness-based therapies, relaxation techniques, and narrative-based medicine. Her hobbies include dressage horseback-riding, cycling (including the Alyn Hospital annual fundraising bike ride), writing, and watercolor painting. Dr. Robert M. Glueck of Kansas City is looking forward to participating in the teaching activities of the TEAMS clinical faculty. Dr. Glueck has practiced consultative cardiology for 28 years as the founder and managing partner of Kansas City Heart Group and Executive Director of the Carondelet Heart and Vascular Institute. Dr. Glueck graduated from Harvard College with honors in American History and Literature, and received his M.D. degree from Harvard Medical School. He took his Internal Medicine residency at Northwestern University in Chicago and Cardiovascular Fellowship at Barnes Hospital/Washington University in St. Louis where his research focused on quantitative ultrasonic tissue characterization. Dr. Glueck now hopes to put his clinical experience and understanding of American medical practice to good use as a member of the TEAMS faculty. Eric Scheier received his MD from the University of Maryland and completed a residency in pediatrics at Emory University in Atlanta. He has worked in pediatric emergency departments in Atlanta and in Israel. He currently works with Dr. Shavit in the pediatric emergency room at Rambam, and has a pediatric clinic in the Tel Aviv area. He made Aliyah with his wife and three daughters in 2008 and lives in Modiin. |
