Allen Pimienta
TeAMS Volunteering Coordinator
Class of 2016
TeAMS and the Technion Israeli medical program joined forces for Tu B’Shvat tree planting this year. We planted Oak, Almond, Pistachio, Carob and other trees in the Beit Keshet Forest on the eastern slopes of the mountains of Nazareth. The beautiful views of the Jezreel Valley, fresh air, and beautiful weather were a welcome break after a long week of studying. The students enjoyed eating dried fruits and nuts, as is the custom on Tu B’Shvat. After eating, tree planting, and hearing about the forest’s history, the group hiked back to the bus through a wonderful forest trail. The event was a great success and I hope we can repeat it in subsequent years. Allen Pimienta TeAMS Volunteering Coordinator Class of 2016 On Thursday night, December 27th, approximately 30 American Medical school students and 30 Israeli Medical students got together for the first time in years to build ties between the two programs. Everyone was asked to bring light refreshments, be we were pleasantly surprised when many of the Israeli students brought incredible dishes, including Alfredo gnocchi and exquisite salads. We got to know each other through fun icebreakers and card games while being serenaded by our resident DJ, eMDy. Nearly everyone approached me after our get-together asking, "Why haven't we done this before, and when are we doing it again?" The greatest success of the event was now being able to say hello to familiar faces in the halls of the faculty. We're already looking forward to our next meet up!
